| CARLTON GARDENS TENNIS CLUB |
| Published on January 22‚ 2013 |
The Carlton Gardens Tennis Club in Victoria has informed me that the club and the city concil will provide some funding for after school tennis coaching.
They woudl like the children to be from out KTF programs in the area, namely at Sacred Heart Primary School, Fitzroy Primary School and St.Joseph's Primary School. Students from these school use their facilities throughout the year, and, no doubt will embrace this opportunity.
Up to eight kids will be chosen from these three schools and will receive one hour of coaching throughout the school term wither after school or on the weekend.
Coach, Pual Bozzo and the CGTC have been great friends of the KTF and see this opportunity to help under privileged kids get the chance to be part of this wonderful environment at the Exhibition Gardens. I'm excited to be part of this agreement going forward and let's hope that the parents and teh kids see this as a wonderful partnership for the future.

| ST THOMAS AQUINAS SCHOOL |
| Published on January 22‚ 2013 |
This year at St Thomas Aquinas School in Victoria, we have been learning to play tennis. Every week one class plays Tennis for one hour. Our three classes have had 12 weeks of tennis lessons each.
In Tennis, people have been learning how to hold, hit and position the racquet and ball. The people who have been learning tennis have had a wonderful time, working with Cameron the KTF coach. Cameron is a great teacher. He knows about many different strokes that you need to do in tennis, like forehand, backhand and serving. We have been playing many fun games to which gives us lots of practice. Cameron is also very funny and helps us have a lot of fun.
We hope that next year there will be another activity to enjoy and that we will be able to play tennis with Cameron again in the future.

| BONA VISTA PRIMARY SCHOOL |
| Published on January 22‚ 2013 |
| There is a buzz around Bona Vista Primary School each Wednesday in terms 1 and 4. Our 33 students from prep to grade 6 have the unique opportunity to be involved in our School Tennis Program ran by Andrew Peavey and Tennis Victoria. Being a small rural school all of our students participate in this program and have done so for a number of years. We are so lucky to have the support of Tennis Victoria to provide our students with a comprehensive physical education program that includes the well developed and engaging program that Andrew provides. Many of our students bring their tennis rackets to school each day to practice the skills and techniques that Andrew has taught them. Very few of our students do after school activities or sports, so programs like this are so important in giving them the experience and enthusiasm to take up sport as they age. Andrew has nicknames for all of our students such as ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Neat and Tidy’. He has such an amazing rapport with our students, is flexible and adaptable and extremely passionate about his role in promoting tennis and healthy living. The students and staff at Bona Vista Primary School look forward to continuing this fantastic program into next year and beyond! |

| ST JOSEPH's CHELSEA PRIMARY SCHOOL |
| Published on January 22‚ 2013 |
The children at St Joseph’s Chelsea really enjoy the Kid’s Tennis program which we have been fortunate enough to include as part of our Physical Education curriculum for the past few years.
We offer the Kid’s Tennis program to our Grade 5 and 6 children and each class receives nine consecutive weeks of Tennis lessons. Our children always eagerly anticipate the program and readily participate in the activities. Larry Muston runs our sessions and provides a range of activities and games which engage and motivate the students in a fun environment.
We find that the Kid’s Tennis program has a range of benefits for our students. The children love participating in a sport they would not otherwise experience and they are able to acquire skills from someone with extensive experience and expertise. We are constantly impressed with the skill development and improvement each child experiences within their lesson time frame. The children grow in confidence each week which helps them when we come to do other sports as well. We also find that the program is instrumental in team building as the children get to work with peers outside their friendship group.
The Kid’s Tennis Program has seen a number of our students take up Tennis in their own time whilst some who had given it away return to the game with renewed enthusiasm. Some on the other hand simply enjoy being able to have a hit with their family and friends knowing that they have a repertoire of skills from which to draw.
We feel privileged to be a part of this fun program which has such a positive impact on the children we teach. |

| Thank You & Farewell Beverley Joy Laity |
| Published on January 22‚ 2013 |
Bev Laity was a long, long time supporter of Kids Tennis Foundation.
Sadly Bev passes away on March this year, but Bev will live on in the hearts of many disadvantaged kids who participate in the KTF programs, as she generously left KTF a substantial bequest.
Bev was born in Geelong in 1945 and when she was aged 11, the family moved to Bendigo where her sister, Jill, was born in 1960.
Bev returned to Geelong in 1973 on transfer of employment to the Geelong Chest Clinic where she worked until she retired in 2003 due to failing health.
Bev played tennis from the age of 8, was the Secretary of the Railways Tennis Club in Bendigo for 3 years, managed junior teams and continued playing in 3 regions of Geelong until she retired in 2003.
Bev attended the Australian Open at Kooyong for many, many years, watching her beloved John Fitzgerald and all the great players from the first match until the last match of the day. She continued to attend the Australia Open when the Open moved to Melbourne Park. Bev saw her last matches in January this year and sadly passed away on 23rd March, aged 67.
Bev followed all junior tennis, Davis Cup ties in Australia and loved and lived for tennis all her life.
Kids Tennis Foundation is indebted to Bev’s support & generosity and would like to express sincere sympathy to Bev’s sister, Jill.
How lucky we were to have a lovely fan! |

The MFAA Footy Luncheon was held at Leonda by the Yarra in Melbourne on the 20th April. Together with MC and facilitator Angela Pippos, footy legends Matthew Lloyd, Peter Daicos and Mick McGuane entertained the enthusiastic audience with tales of past feats and an insight into the footy season ahead.
Kids Tennis Foundation was lucky to be the chosen charity once again in 2012, being the beneficiary of funds raised at special functions throughout the year organised by the Mortgage & Finance association of Australia (Victoria Council).
Thanks to spirited bidding for auction items and funds raised from the raffle KTF received more than $7000 from the event. |

| Presidents Report 2012 |
| Published on September 29‚ 2011 |
Kids Tennis Foundation has been “brightening the lives” of disadvantaged kids for more than 28 years now, an achievement of which all of us at KTF are very proud indeed.
Kids Tennis Foundation programs help build self confidence and self esteem, provide a lifetime recreational outlet, foster tolerance and co-operation between children of many varied nationalities and cultures and…… much, much more.
Sincere thanks to Tennis Australia for their continued & essential support in once again choosing KTF to be a beneficiary of funds raised on “Charity Sunday” at Australian Open 2012, receiving in excess $14.000. The Lord Mayors Charitable Foundation (VIC) also provided a grant of $10,000 and for this, we are truly grateful.
The success of our Annual KTF Gala, “Technicolour Tennis Ball” at the Park Hyatt in August, was in no small way thanks to Craig Willis for his masterful role as MC and to the many organisations, companies and individuals who contribute so generously in so many ways. Great entertainment from “The Vibes” and spirited bidding at both main and silent auctions made for a fun filled night and a big financial success for KTF. Sincere thanks to all donors, in particular those of Major items including Etihad Airways, Spotless, 3AW, Movida Restaurant, Maxwell & Williams, De Bortoli Wines and Heineken and, congratulations to all lucky bidders.
Don’t forget to put FRIDAY 17th AUGUST in your diary for this year’s Gala.
Once again, on the eve of Australia Day, our “Summer Party” at the beautiful home of Paul & Lesley McNamee was a night to remember. Entertainment from Captain Spalding Band, superb food, excellent wines along with a host of past tennis greats, ensured everyone had a ball. Many thanks Paul and Lesley for your ongoing generosity & hospitality.
And another winner……The Annual KTF Mothers’ Day Lunch held at Leonda by the Yarra in May! Thanks to all the wonderful ladies who attended and contributed so much to the success of this function. With Ann Peacock as special guest speaker, great food, wonderful venue, fantastic gift bags and prizes, it is no wonder this function was a sell out.
The hard working members of the KTF Social Committee and their help with the production and organization of these functions ensures they are successful fundraisers
Most important to the successful implementation and running of KTF programs are our State Administrators, coaches, schools and their enthusiastic staff. It is no wonder that we receive so much praise and endorsement of KTF programs with such fantastic support.
At this point, I would like to thank our “retiring” NSW Administrator, Willie Quan, for his dedication & commitment to KTF over more than 20 years. We wish you every happiness for the future.
We know KTF is in good administrative hands. CEO Susie Norton has worked tirelessly to maintain as many programs as possible with the reduced funds available and has made significant cost savings as well. Her dedication, love and commitment is the lifeblood of KTF. A huge, huge thanks Susie. And to Sarah, our National Co-ordinator, for your dedication, devotion & generosity, sincere thanks. A real asset to the team! Last, but by no means least, thank you to the Members of the KTF Board who donate their time and work hard to ensure that KTF continues to make a difference in the community.
We have many other wonderful supporters too who contribute in cash or kind and give us the opportunity to still deliver many programs throughout Australia.
A very big thank you to all.

| SUPPORT OF TENNIS AUSTRALIA TRULY VALUED. |
| Published on September 29‚ 2011 |
Tennis fans visiting Australian Open 2012 on the middle Sunday, Charity Sunday, had the opportunity to help raise money for two very worthy causes simply by depositing ticket stubs in collection bins around Melbourne Park. For every ticket stub placed in the collection bins, $2 was donated to the Australian Open Charitable Fund and shared between the official Australian Open Charities, Tennis Australia Foundation and Kids Tennis Foundation. Kids Tennis Foundation is the only dedicated tennis charity in Australia which introduces underprivileged kids to the wonderful world of tennis, so this recognition by Tennis Australia is truly valued.
Kids Tennis Foundation sincerely thanks Tennis Australia for their ongoing support and is truly privileged and ever so grateful to once again receive such a generous donation of $14,400. Thanks also to all those patrons at AO 2012 who deposited their ticket stubs.
This money certainly helps Kids Tennis Foundation provide financially and socially disadvantaged children throughout Australia with the opportunity to learn and play tennis, not to mention the boost to their self-esteem and self-confidence. |

| Published on November 30‚ 2009 |
PRINCIPAL SPONSOR OF KIDS TENNIS FOUNDATION
Kids Tennis Foundation (KTF) is a long established welfare program with a national reach, strong positive reputation, sound and experienced administration and an urgent need for
ongoing funding.
KTF offers an outstanding opportunity for a corporate involvement in a proven charity that attempts to address two vital issues affecting Australia’s underprivileged youth, obesity and self-esteem.
Principal sponsorship of KTF provides a real and valuable commercial component through exposure on national television.
Founded by Paul McNamee in 1983, KTF is recognised as the only schools based social welfare program that uses tennis as a means for communication to help raise the self-esteem and self-confidence of financially and socially disadvantaged kids.
KTF’s goal is to provide tennis coaching for every child in every disadvantaged primary school in Australia. Currently almost 200 programs operate throughout Australia, involving over 4,000 underprivileged children every school term. With encouragement and praise, the kids learn to play in a relaxed, happy environment. In addition to the physical exercise experienced at the time, these skills and feelings can then
hopefully carry over into other areas of their lives, or at least make them feel good about themselves for one hour each week.
To learn more about this outstanding opportunity please contact Susie Norton on (03) 9510 9165. |

This was presented to KTF at the annual “Celebration of Giving”, a special event hosted at the Melbourne Town Hall in October.
Kids Tennis Foundation is thrilled that the importance of its work has been recognised through being awarded this grant once again. Each year the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation supports more than 400 health and human care organisations delivering critical community support, including organisations dealing with homelessness and drug addiction, public hospitals, services for the disabled, aged, young people and families. | Garnier – Taking Care of Kids Tennis Foundation |
| Published on June 16‚ 2009 |
HOW GENEROUS! Garnier Ambre Solaire, the official supplier of sunscreen to the Australian Open for the fifth consecutive year, has enjoyed remarkable success at this tournament. Garnier continued to celebrate their message with the wider community proudly Taking Care of others, especially Kids Tennis Foundation.
Roaming Garnier Ambre Solaire teams again this year gave away mini bottles of Ambre Solaire sunscreen in exchange for a gold coin donation with all proceeds going to Kids Tennis Foundation. And, many scorching summer days throughout the tournament ensured that Garnier Ambre Solaire was not only a popular product but an essential one!
Yet again, at Melbourne Park in January, Garnier was there to ensure that everyone from the fans to the players had the opportunity to look and feel their best. The team at Garnier World was on hand to provide complimentary hairstyles, massages and skincare consultations using products from the entire Garnier range, with patrons receiving a fabulous gift bag full of wonderful Garnier products. And, not only were the patrons at Garnier World happy with this fantastic treatment and gift, but Kids Tennis Foundation too, being the recipient of yet more gold coin donations from patrons. How exciting during the Open seeing those tennis balls rising up the Garnier Fund-Meter (pictured).
A staggering $50,000 was raised from these wonderful Garnier initiatives during the Australian Open. Truly an amazing result!! Kids Tennis Foundation is truly delighted and especially proud to be associated with Garnier. Because of this fabulous partnership, many more disadvantaged children around Australia will be able to receive tennis coaching on a regular weekly basis, not to mention the boost to their self-esteem and self-confidence.
Now in its 26th year, Kids Tennis Foundation has coached in excess of 250,000 children across the width and breadth of Australia. The incredible support of Garnier over many years now has helped make this possible. Sincerest of thanks in particular to Mark Tucker, Mark O’Keefe, Sandra Kelly, Georgia Reid and all the other Garnier World staff who help get the Kids Tennis Foundation message out there.
THANK YOU GARNIER!!

| President's Report - by Eric Campbell |
| Published on June 16‚ 2009 |
The past twelve months have been very tough in that Kids Tennis Foundation has operated without a Principal Sponsor. However, I’m very pleased to report that we have continued to deliver our programs throughout Australia, providing a positive impact on the lives of thousands of underprivileged children.
Obviously, all members of the Board and our CEO Susie Norton are each working furiously in endeavouring to attract ongoing major sponsorship. KTF is not only a valuable and worthwhile charity, but also offers sponsors great exposure and excellent promotion opportunities. If you are at all interested in exploring the prospect of sponsorship, or know any organisation that might see the benefits of an association with KTF, please call Susie. We have produced a very comprehensive sponsorship package including a DVD demonstrating the depth and reach of our welfare program and will be happy to pass it on to anybody wanting to develop a support relationship with KTF.
We have had wonderful ongoing support from Garnier, who exceeded last year’s very generous contribution by $20,000! A huge thank you to Mark Tucker and Mark O’Keefe and their overwhelmingly friendly and helpful Garnier family. Additionally we have continued to receive fabulous gift packs and presentation packs containing Garnier’s impressive range of products for use in our annual fund raising activities.
And, what would we do without the Hyundai Hopman Cup in WA and the generosity of the Variety Club WA. Not only did KTF receive in excess of $40,000 from funds raised through auction and raffle at the annual Hopman Cup Ball, but also, through the Aces Program during the Hopman Cup tournament, Members Equity most generously donated $10,000 to Kids Tennis Foundation.
Continued and very necessary financial support was gratefully received from the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation (Victoria), again through the Eldon & Anne Foote Trust, and from the Tennis Australia Charitable Fund. Prime TV continues to generously provide a number of KTF advertorials throughout regional Victoria.
The Park Hyatt in Melbourne was the magnificent venue for our “Pastel, Paisley and Pearl” Ball MC’d superbly by tennis legend Todd Woodbridge. A great night of food, wine and dancing, along with some exciting entertainment for good measure. We benefitted greatly from the enthusiastic bidding in both the main and silent auctions. Congratulations and thanks to all successful bidders. Please note in your organiser that The Park Hyatt Melbourne will once again be the venue for our 2009 Gala, “A Night at Champagne Charlie’s”, on
Friday 28th August.
The annual Mothers’ Day Lunch at Leonda by the Yarra was also a magnificent success, voted by many of the record number of attendees as “one of the best lunches ever”, thanks largely to the wonderful talents of Wendy Stapleton. Once again Garnier and Kate Hill Flowers rose to the occasion for which we are extremely grateful.
We are indebted to so many who contribute in cash and kind. The hard working Social Committee continues to organise wonderful events that provide enjoyment for those attending and a financial return to KTF. We’re grateful also to the many tennis clubs who donate court usage, racquets and balls. The State Administrators, the coaches, the schools and their most co-operative staff, all of whom help in delivering our great program, thankyou. The coaches offer more than tennis coaching and we continue to receive testimonials telling us how they provide such a positive role model and give the kids a great sense of responsibility and self awareness.
A huge thankyou to our hard working CEO Susie Norton who maintains her enthusiasm and commitment and the equally hard working and dedicated National Co-ordinator, Kate Szabo. Their contribution ensures our Program is in very good hands. Finally thankyou to the Board Members who actively participate in ensuring we continue to provide a very worthwhile social welfare program. |

TENNIS AUSTRALIA CHARITABLE FUND RAISES MONEY FOR TWO VERY WORTHY CAUSES

Tennis Australia this year again nominated United Way Australia and Kids Tennis Foundation as the official charities for Australian Open 2009.
United Way Australia is a charity which aims to raise funds to support disadvantaged young Australians through grassroots mentoring programs; and Kids Tennis Foundation is the only dedicated tennis charity in Australia which introduces disadvantaged kids to the wonderful world of tennis.
Tennis fans visiting Australian Open 2009 on the middle Sunday, Charity Sunday, had the opportunity to help raise money for these two very worthy causes simply by depositing ticket stubs in collection bins around Melbourne Park.
Through the Tennis Australia Charitable Fund, United Way Australia and Kids Tennis Foundation shared in the proceeds of a donation from the Fund for every stub redeemed.
Kids Tennis Foundation sincerely thanks the Australian Open and Tennis Australia for their ongoing support and is truly privileged and ever so grateful to once again receive such a generous donation. Thanks also to all those patrons at AO 2009 who deposited their ticket stubs.
This money certainly goes a long way in helping Kids Tennis Foundation provide many more financially and socially disadvantaged children throughout Australia with the opportunity to learn and play tennis, not to mention the boost to their self-esteem and self-confidence.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Kids Tennis Foundation wishes to thank the following tennis clubs and individuals for kindly donating (many of whom on a regular basis) used tennis balls, racquets, other tennis equipment or court time during 2008/09:

Chris Kachel
Doveton Tennis Club
Harvey Tartakover
Manningham Social Tennis Club
Maribyrnong Park Tennis Club
Shirley Flanders
Strathmore Tennis Club
Tennis School at Box Hill Senior Secondary School
Tennis Victoria
Waverley Tennis Association
All balls and racquets are distributed to coaches for use in KTF programs, or donated to schools so that children can use them during recess, lunchtime, before and after school. With almost 200 programs each week all tennis equipment is gratefully received.
Thank you also to the following tennis clubs who have been most generous in donating court time to Kids Tennis Foundation so that coaches can conduct lessons at nearby tennis courts:
Bendigo Tennis Association
Brunswick West Tennis Club
Carlton Gardens Tennis Club
Dandenong Tennis Club
East Melbourne Tennis Centre
Glenroy Tennis Club
Holy Child Catholic Parish

Being able to use courts free of charge certainly helps our cause no end, as the money we save can go directly back into more programs or keep existing programs going for longer.
COACHES’ CORNER
Welcome Jesse Laino

Jesse Laino commenced with KTF at the beginning of the year and is conducting programs in the Keilor area. Jesse started playing tennis from the age of 5 and at 11 become a member of Moomba Park Tennis Club (formerly St Matthew's Tennis Club) played junior competition with the club for 6 years and is currently playing men’s night competition in the North Eastern Night Tennis Group (NENTG). Jesse has obtained his level one junior development certificate with ATPCA and has been coaching for 5 years and is this year dedicating his time to coaching full time.
Welcome Cameron Govan

Cameron joined the Kids Tennis Foundation team towards the end of 2008 and is coaching programs in the Grovedale area of Geelong at Grovedale Primary School and Grovedale West Primary School. These schools are in very close vicinity to Grovedale Tennis Club where he is currently the head coach.
Cameron moved from Melbourne, where he was head coach at Westmeadows Primary School, to Grovedale in September last year, where he immediately took over from the previous KTF coach at the Grovedale schools.
Cameron now runs his own business ‘Essential Tennis’ out of Grovedale Tennis Club and he and the club are happy with the progress tennis is making in this area.
Cameron is very enthusiastic and energetic, enjoying working with the school children in the KTF programs. He is currently working through each grade 3&4 at Grovedale West and 4/5/6 at Grovedale Primary School.
Feedback from all the teachers who help out with the tennis classes is all very positive. They report that the kids are really enjoying their tennis, obvious by their attention during the lessons and their willingness to learn. |

"CELEBRATION OF GIVING"

Kids Tennis Foundation was again a very fortunate beneficiary of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation (LMCF) in 2008, recently receiving a much-needed funding boost of $30,000.
Announced at the annual “Celebration of Giving”, a special event hosted by the Foundation’s President Lord Mayor John So in October, this grant was made possible due to the outstanding generosity of Mrs Anne Foote and her late husband, Eldon Foote, who established the Eldon & Anne Foote Trust within the LMCF to distribute its revenue to worthy causes.
Mr & Mrs Foote have always been keen to support innovative projects and causes that are making a significant contribution to society. Kids Tennis Foundation is thrilled that the importance of its work has been recognised through being awarded this grant.
Each year the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation supports more than 400 health and human care organisations delivering critical community support, including organisations dealing with homelessness and drug addiction, public hospitals, services for the disabled, aged, young people and families.
The Foundation’s CEO Mr Andrew Chappell said that the Foundation had increased its fundraising efforts to enable a 100 per cent increase in funds available for distribution from $4M in 2007, to $8.1M in 2008 to over 400 charities.
Kids Tennis Foundation would like to sincerely thank the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation for this recognition and generosity.

KTF ♥’s GARNIER!

In the twelve months since my last report, I’m proud to say Kids Tennis Foundation has been able to maintain nationwide coverage with around two hundred programs operating in underprivileged schools throughout Australia.
OAMPS Insurance Brokers Ltd, in their final year of sponsorship, continued to provide “added value” over and above their significant annual cash contribution. A special thankyou must go to Brian Austin for his personal involvement in ensuring a mutually rewarding relationship was enjoyed. We are working hard in attracting a replacement Principal Sponsor. KTF is not only a valuable and worthwhile charity but offers sponsors great exposure and excellent promotion opportunities.
Unfortunately American Express was unable to continue with the “Aces Promotion” during the 2008 Australian Open. When KTF received $100 for each ace served on Rod Laver Arena. Not only did we receive a healthy injection of much needed funds over the years it operated, we also enjoyed great publicity, as did American Express, from the Channel 7 commentary team. At this point in time this outstanding sponsorship/promotion opportunity is also available to a suitable organisation.
Continued and very necessary financial support was gratefully received from the Tennis Australia Charitable Fund, the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund through the Eldon & Anne Foote Trust, and a most generous donation from Prime Television who continues to provide a number of advertorials in regional Victoria.
I must make special mention of Garnier. Apart from donating part proceeds from the sale of mini bottles of Ambre Solaire sunscreen at the 2007 Australian Open, we have always received wonderful gift packs and presentation packs containing Garnier’s wonderful range of products for use in our annual fund raising activities. And at this year’s Australia Open Garnier went a step further with KTF receiving gold coin donations from ALL mini bottle of Ambre Solaire sunscreen distributed plus those received at Garnier World during the two weeks. Many thousands of dollars later - thank you Garnier!
Since my last report we have conducted two extremely successful fund and “fun” raising activities. Firstly, the “Night of Gold Glitz & Glamour” Ball at The Park Hyatt Melbourne in August last year. This event was very well attended and raised a very healthy sum. In May this year we conducted the “Lady in Red” Mothers’ Day Lunch at Leonda By The Yarra which was described as truly fantastic by all those attending. A huge thanks to L’Oreal and Bridge Road Florist who made special contributions.
Once again we’re indebted to so many who contribute in cash and kind. The hard working social committee is very talented in generating ideas and sourcing prizes and helping to ensure the success of the fundraising events. We have numerous enthusiastic and generous supporters who enable us to keep our programs running. We’re grateful also to the many tennis clubs who donate court usage, racquets and balls.
Thankyou to the State/Territory Administrators, the coaches, the schools and their most co-operative staff, all of whom help in delivering our great KTF programs. The coaches offer more than tennis coaching and we continue to receive testimonials telling us how they provide a role model and give the kids a great sense of responsibility and self awareness.
Our CEO Susie Norton continues to enthusiastically and most capably lead the team, in this her 21st year with KTF. Congrats Susie. Along with the proficient and equally enthusiastic National Co-ordinator, Kate Szabo, the Foundation is in very good hands. A huge thankyou to you both. Finally thankyou to the Board who actively participate in ensuring we continue to provide a very worthwhile social welfare program.
Finally, a very important reminder......
The last fund raising activity for this year is our “Pastel, Paisley & Pearl Ball” with Todd Woodbridge as MC and once again to be held at The Park Hyatt Melbourne on Friday August 29th. This is a must, so book your table now! |

| Garnier - Taking Care of Kids Tennis Foundation |
| Published on July 31‚ 2008 |
Gorgeous Generous Garnier!
Garnier Ambre Solaire, the official supplier of sunscreen to the Australian Open for the fourth consecutive year, has enjoyed remarkable success at the tournament and it was announced earlier in the year that this partnership has been extended until 2010.
Garnier continued to celebrate their message with the wider community, proudly Taking Care of others by donating all proceeds from every Ambre Solaire sunscreen sold at the Australian Open to Kids Tennis Foundation.
Garnier Roaming Ambre Solaire teams were giving away mini Ambre Solaire sun protection in exchange for a gold coin donation to Kids Tennis Foundation. Many scorching summer days throughout the tournament ensured that Garnier Ambre Solaire sunscreen was not only a popular product but an essential one!
As the world’s greatest players descended on Melbourne Park in January, Garnier was also there to ensure that everyone from the fans to the players and even the wider community had the opportunity to look and feel their best! The Garnier World Team was on hand to provide complimentary hairstyles, massages and skincare consultations using products from the entire Garnier range and every Garnier World guest received a fabulous gift bag valued at RRP $50.
Proceeds from the gold coin donations received from Garnier World and the roaming Garnier Ambre Solaire teams amounted to a total of $30,000 raised for Kids Tennis Foundation. Certainly an amazing result!
Since its inception 25 years ago, Kids Tennis Foundation has coached in excess of 250,000 children across Australia, a very proud achievement. The very generous support of Garnier over many years now has helped make this possible.
Kids Tennis Foundation is delighted and ever so grateful to be associated with Garnier once again this year. Because of this wonderful partnership, many more disadvantaged children around Australia will now be able to receive tennis coaching on a regular weekly basis, not to mention the boost to their self-esteem and self-confidence too.
THANK YOU, GARNIER!! |

| Tennis Australia Charitable Fund helps KTF once again at AO 2008 |
| Published on July 31‚ 2008 |
Tennis Australia this year again nominated The Bone Growth Foundation, United Way Community Funds of Australia and Kids Tennis Foundation as the official charities for Australian Open 2008.
The Bone Growth Foundation provides infrastructure and funds research into children’s crippling bone growth problems; United Way Community Funds of Australia is a charity which aims to raise funds to support disadvantaged young Australians through grassroots mentoring programs; and Kids Tennis Foundation is the only dedicated tennis charity in Australia which introduces disadvantaged kids to the wonderful world of tennis.
Tennis fans visiting Australian Open 2008 on the middle Sunday, Charity Sunday, had the opportunity to help raise money for these three very worthy causes simply by depositing ticket stubs in collection bins around Melbourne Park.
Through the Tennis Australia Charitable Fund, The Bone Growth Foundation, United Way Community Funds of Australia and Kids Tennis Foundation shared in the proceeds of a donation from the Fund for every stub redeemed.
Kids Tennis Foundation sincerely thanks the Australian Open and Tennis Australia for their ongoing support and is truly privileged and ever so grateful to once again receive such a generous donation. Thanks also to all those patrons at who deposited their ticket stubs.
This money certainly goes a long way in helping Kids Tennis Foundation provide many more financially and socially disadvantaged children throughout Australia with the opportunity to learn and play tennis, not to mention the boost to their self-esteem and self-confidence. |

COACHES CORNER
WELCOME…….
Norm Cahill
Norm joined the KTF coaching team at the beginning of this year and is taking the Program to the enthusiastic kids at St Mary’s School in Rushworth.
Norm was first taught the game by the legendary Harry Hopman and Bryan Slattery and throughout his playing career competed against such great players such as Ken Rosewall, Neale Fraser and Frank Sedgman. After his brief international tennis career, Norm began a career in coaching which has spanned close to 50 years. Norm also coaches at Mooroopna Lawn Tennis Club, Murchison and at Puckapunyal Army Base. Norm was head coach of the Victorian Country Tennis Association for 15 years and coached tennis at Wesley College in Melbourne for 33 years. He won a singles gold medal at the 2002 World Masters Games in Melbourne and in 2006 was inducted into the Tennis Coaches Australia Victorian Hall of Fame.
Norm lives in Kirwan’s Bridge with his wife Bernice and is a proud father of 10 and grandfather of 26.

Valoja Illangasinghe
Valoja joined the KTF team at the beginning of the year and is conducting programs in the Dandenong/Noble Park area. Valoja is married with 2 children (Caitlyn 11 and Mitchell 8). He has been coaching for more than 10 years, holding ATPCA Level 2 and Tennis Australia Club Professional qualifications. Valoja has been the head coach at Dandenong Tennis Club now for 12 months and has increased coaching numbers by 100 students. Valoja currently competes in Grade 1 for Gracedale Park, having played Grade 1 for 10+ years.

FAREWELL……
Richard Girvan
Richard started with KTF 17 years ago and has been a loyal and dedicated coach during this time. In the beginning he was coaching in the Kyneton region and then most recently in the Corryong area. Richard has been a very popular coach with all his students and he has introduced many kids to the wonderful sport of tennis during his time with KTF. He will be sadly missed but we all wish him the best with his new career path and hope he can return to the KTF team one day.
“Dear Susie and Kate,
Firstly I would just like to thank you for all the work you have done over the years for me and let you know that this has been a very hard decision for me to leave tennis coaching. I would also like to commend you both on your work over the years. The KTF Program is something that I believe in very strongly and would not run without the passion and belief that you both have. I originally started with Kids Tennis Foundation for some extra money when I first got back from America and started my coaching business but I stayed in for a very selfish reason – the satisfaction I got from teaching kids who would never have had a chance to play the game was everything to me and is the thing that I will miss the most. Thanks for the chance to do this.”
Richard Girvan.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Kids Tennis Foundation wishes to thank the following tennis clubs and individuals for kindly donating used tennis balls, racquets, other tennis equipment or court time during 2007/08; many of whom donate on a regular basis:
Albert Reserve Tennis Centre
Bacchus Marsh Tennis Club
Chris Kachel
Diggers Rest Tennis Club
Harvey Tartakover
Manningham Social Tennis Club
Melton District Tennis Association
Melton South Tennis Club
Paul McNamee
Tennis School at Box Hill Senior Secondary School
Tennis Victoria
Shirley Flanders
Waverley Tennis Association
All balls and racquets are distributed to coaches for use in KTF Programs, or donated to schools so that children can use them during recess, lunchtime, before and after school. With around 200 programs each week all tennis equipment is gratefully received.
Thank you also to the following tennis clubs who have been most generous in donating court time to Kids Tennis Foundation so that coaches can conduct lessons at nearby tennis courts:
Carlton Gardens Tennis Club
East Melbourne Tennis Centre
Glenroy Tennis Club
Melton South Tennis Club
Melton District Tennis Association
West Brunswick Tennis Club
Being able to use courts free of charge certainly helps our cause no end, as the money we save can go directly back into more programs or keep existing programs going for longer.

TESTIMONIALS FROM VICTORIAN SCHOOLS INVOLVED IN THE KTF PROGRAM DURING 2007:
The Kids Tennis Foundation program is very important to our small inner-city school. The students from Holy Rosary come from very varied multi-cultural backgrounds, with many different needs. The students who are involved in the program love their time playing tennis. Not only is it a great time to get active and motivated, it is a time to learn new skills. Many students have never played tennis before and Kids Tennis Foundation gives them a small taste of a wonderful, energetic sport. Our tennis coach, Lou, has an excellent way with our students and strives to bring out the best in each child. We hope that through the KTF Program many of our students use our local community facilities and become life long tennis players.
Holy Rosary PS Kensington
Over 300 students have received coaching during the past 2 years in the Kids Tennis Foundation Program. The students have been enthusiastic and eagerly await the tennis lessons. The skills and activities will stand the students in good stead for their further development. On behalf of the students and staff I would sincerely like to thank Kids Tennis Foundation for giving our school the opportunity to participate in this most valuable Program.
Manorvale PS
Kings Park welcomed the opportunity to participate in the Kids Tennis Foundation Program. Providing this type of program allows children from disadvantaged backgrounds to enjoy experiences they would normally not participate in.
Kings Park PS
The children at St Stephen’s have enjoyed the fun, skills and physical activity that have come with being involved in the Kids Tennis Foundation Program. Many of our students do not get the opportunity to play sport outside school hours and this is a great way to introduce them to tennis.
St Stephen’s School, Reservoir
We have had the KTF Program for the last 2 years and it has been a tremendous success. In our isolated community only 1 or 2 children have had any contact with tennis so the KTF Program has been a wonderful skill-builder and social activity.
Diggers Rest PS
The students from years 3 to 6 have participated in the KTF Program and have absolutely loved it. The parents and staff at Findon have also been very impressed by the quality of the Program.
Findon PS
Kids Tennis Foundation was a wonderful experience for our students and staff. It enhanced our H&PE program and provided hours of fun and positive experiences for our students. It was lovely to not only watch their skills develop but see their confidence grow in a fun environment.

FAREWELL TO PETER JOHNSTON
It is with great sadness that Kids Tennis Foundation announces the resignation of one of our long-serving Board Members, Peter Johnston.
Peter (pictured) was a director of Tennis Victoria when he joined the Board of KTF in 1986. Prior to this role at Tennis Victoria, Peter was a top Victorian tennis player and played the tour from 1979 until 1985. He was a player agent in the early 1990’s and joined Tennis Australia in 1995 first as Marketing Manager and then as General Manager of Men’s Tennis and General Manager of Events and until recently as Deputy Tournament Director of the Australian Open.
“I loved my time on the Kids Tennis Foundation Board. I was fortunate to have worked with some wonderful people who were all in it for the kids! Everyone was so professional. The fact that KTF is still providing coaching for disadvantaged kids after 24 years is testament to the wonderful initiative of Founder and Chairman, Paul McNamee, and the hard work of all the Board Members, CEO Susie Norton, National Co-ordinator Kate Szabo and all the coaches and interstate administrators”.
Kids Tennis Foundation would like to thank Peter most sincerely for his wonderful contribution over 21 years. All those disadvantaged kids would love to thank you too, Peter.

During this time he was ranked No.1 in Australia in singles and No.1 in the world in doubles, was Wimbledon doubles champion with Peter McNamara, mixed doubles champion with Martina Navratilova, and Over 35’s Doubles and Over 45’s doubles champion and was Australian Open doubles champion in 1983 and 1986. Paul was a member of the Australian Davis Cup Team from 1980-86, which included victories in 1983 and 1986.

He is married to Lesley and has a son, Rowan.

Eric Campbell has been a social tennis player all his life. During the early 1980’s he was a member of a committee at his local club, but it was his capacity as a franchisee of McDonald’s stores in the Frankston area that Eric became hooked on tennis from an administrative perspective.
Eric was the driving force in the initial McDonald’s sponsorship of Australian tennis which commenced in 1985. In the late 1980’s Eric served on the Victorian MJTA Player Development Board as the nominated McDonald’s state representative.
Eric was on the Tennis Victoria Development Board from 1989-1996 and in the early 1990’s was co-opted to the Tennis Victoria Board of Management, on which he served for many years.
Eric was recently awarded the Victorian Centenary of Tennis Award – an award that was introduced in order to commemorate the 100 years of the Victorian Open in 1981 and recognizes a player or administrator’s significant contribution to tennis.
Eric joined the Board of KTF in 2000 and has been President since 2002.

Victor Eke was an international touring professional tennis player. He is a Tennis Australia Elite Coach and has coached all levels from beginners to touring professionals.
When his good friend, Paul McNamee, discussed the possibility of establishing a charity to provide tennis coaching for disadvantaged children, Victor jumped at the chance to help and so has been on the Board of Kids Tennis Foundation since it’s inception in 1983, many of these years as President.
Victor currently runs his own coaching business, TOTAL TENNIS, and coaches students in the Malvern area.

Damian Grave joined the Board of Kids Tennis Foundation in 2000. He has been a keen tennis player, administrator and tennis coach over many years.
He is a partner at Freehills lawyers based in Melbourne. He is married to Cathie and they have three young children.

Joshua Frydenberg is currently a Director of Global Banking at Deutsche Bank.
He was formerly Senior Adviser to the Prime Minister, John Howard (2003-4) and Senior Adviser to the Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer (1999-2003). Prior to working in Canberra, Joshua completed his articles of clerkship at Mallesons Stephens Jacques.
He has a LLB (Hons) and BEc (Hons) from Monash University, a Masters in International Relations (MPhil) from Oxford University and a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from Harvard University.
He is a keen tennis player having represented Australia at the World University Games in Sheffield, UK (1991) and at Buffalo, USA (1993).
Joshua joined the Board of Kids Tennis Foundation in 2003.

Helen Pryor joined the Board of Kids Tennis Foundation in May 2005. However, her involvement with KTF in fact spans more than eight years. As National Sales Manager at Ego Pharmaceuticals, Helen played a key role in helping KTF secure Sunsense as Principal Sponsor 1999-2004 (inclusive).
Helen believes that the KTF programs offer many underprivileged children a unique opportunity to experience tennis participation in a fun environment – an opportunity they would not have without KTF.
Helen is now retired after more than 30 years working in the pharmaceutical industry, mostly in marketing and sales management roles. She is married with four adult children, lives in inner city Melbourne and enjoys all the delights of this great city. Helen is also on another charity board and assists with another children’s charity. She believes that children in primary school should have a happy and healthy environment in which to grow.

Mike Strauss is a marketing and communications consultant with 40 years’ experience in the advertising industry.
Mike was Founder of the Singleton Palmer Strauss and McAllum (SPASM) Agency, Chairman of Foote Cone & Belding (Australia) after their merger with SPASM in 1980, and in 1986 was appointed Managing Director of Foote Cone & Belding (London).
Upon his return to Australia in 1989, Mike was appointed Chairman and CEO of Darcy Masius Benton & Bowles (Asia Pacific), where he held positions on numerous industry bodies including founder member and inaugural Chairman of The Advertising Federation of Australia.

Each year the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund (Victoria) raises money to support charities, hospital, welfare and health care agencies caring for Melbourne’s most disadvantaged.
The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund (Victoria) recently announced that it had just distributed $4.1 million to over 300 Melbourne hospitals and charities including two major grants of up to $100,000 awarded to Parkinson’s Victoria and the St Vincent’s Foundation.
Kids Tennis Foundation was one of the lucky beneficiaries and was awarded $28,000. This grant was made possible due to the outstanding generosity of Mrs Anne Foote and her late husband Eldon Foote who established a trust within the Lord Mayor's Charitable Fund to distribute its revenue to worthy causes.
Mr & Mrs Foote have always been keen to support innovative projects and causes that are making a significant contribution to society. Kids Tennis Foundation is thrilled that the importance of its work has been recognized through being awarded this grant.
Kids Tennis Foundation would like to sincerely thank the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund for this recognition and generosity. This $28,000 means that many more disadvantaged children in Melbourne will be given the opportunity to learn and play tennis, not to mention the boost to their self-esteem and self-confidence. |

“Whatever Kids Tennis Foundation wants, Kids Tennis Foundation gets!”. That could almost be the motto for KTF when referring to HSJ Advertising. This wonderful company has been assisting KTF with design and production needs for many, many years now. From ideas and design for invitations and programs, to newsletter and brochure lay-out, to producing KTF advertisements, to…… you name it, HSJ can do it!
The HSJ Group consists of four inter-related companies, all associated with marketing, brand and advertising. Formed in 1975 by Managing Director, Ian Hickey, the group offer traditional advertising services coupled with enormous ‘in house’ capabilities. With photography, signage and multimedia divisions, they can offer their clients a complete service.
Sincere thanks to Ian and his wife, Jeanine, and their wonderful team, especially Danielle Weickhardt, for their incredible support and generosity. May it continue for many years to come!

Sincere thanks once again to Tony Hogarth, General Manager, Prime Television Victoria, for his wonderful support of Kids Tennis Foundation over the last two years.
In this time, not only has Prime Television donated cash but has also provided Kids Tennis Foundation with substantial on-air promotional airtime in regional Victoria.
Prime TV produced the commercial free of charge and as a result of this television exposure Kids Tennis Foundation has received many enquiries about the work of Kids Tennis Foundation, where programs are conducted and the availability of KTF programs in regional Victoria. Consequently, many additional programs have commenced in some of these country towns.
Kids Tennis Foundation is proud to have Prime Television as its television communication partner in regional Victoria. |

Yet again, another successful year with over two hundred programs operating in underprivileged schools throughout Australia. More than four thousand happy children participate every week of the school year.
OAMPS Insurance Brokers Limited has continued as most valuable sponsors, with a myriad of examples of “added value” over and above their significant annual cash contribution. As I’ve noted before, the attitude from the people at OAMPS is always, “how can we help?” Clearly we enjoy the same high level of service offered to their customers.
Once again we enjoyed fantastic support from American Express through the “$100 For Each Ace Served on Rod Laver Arena” promotion. Not only did Kids Tennis Foundation receive $78,840, we also received great publicity from the frequent reference to the promotion and Kids Tennis Foundation from the Channel Seven commentary team.
Continued financial support was gratefully received from the Tennis Australia Charitable Fund, the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund, again through the Eldon & Anne Foote Trust, and a most generous donation from Prime Television who also provided a number of advertorials over the past twelve months.
Continued success was enjoyed from the three major fund raising activities. First off each year is the Talking Tennis Lunch which is an official Australian Open event. This is an event that has been most instrumental in raising awareness of our Program and giving us the opportunity to demonstrate to the public, through our short video clips, just what it is we do and how our kids benefit. A firm May fixture is the Mothers’ Day Lunch at Kooyong, which was once again a great success. This year we moved our annual ball to October. The “Flower Power” Tennis Ball provided a fun night for all who attended and raised a very healthy sum. Special mention must be made of Garnier who have been extremely generous in providing items from their vast product range as prizes and gifts at these functions. Once again we’re indebted to all those who contribute in cash and kind. The enthusiasm and generosity of our supporters enables us to keep our Program running. Great ongoing support is also appreciated from the many tennis clubs who donate court usage, racquets, balls and other equipment.
Thankyou to the coaches, the schools and their most co-operative staff all of whom help in delivering a great program. Again we’ve seen some new coaches joining the program and some we have farewelled. A huge thankyou to Mick Seeney who has stepped down as our Queensland Administrator. Welcome to Stephen Murphy who is now capably and enthusiastically looking after our program in the sunny north.
The coaches continue to provide more than tennis coaching. We’ve had a large number of testimonials telling us how the coaches provide a positive role model and give the kids a great sense of responsibility and self awareness.
Susie Norton continues to lead the team with her unwavering enthusiasm and professionalism and along with the very capable and equally enthusiastic National Coordinator, Kate Szabo, our Program is in very good hands. A huge thankyou to you both. Thanks also goes to our dedicated band of State co-ordinators. Finally thankyou to the Board who ensure all the parts are in place that enable us to continue to provide a very worthwhile social welfare program.
Finally, a very important reminder! The final fundraising activity for this year is our “Night of Gold, Glitz & Glamour” at The Park Hyatt Melbourne on Friday August 24th. This is well worth noting in your diary now. |

The kids absolutely LOVE the Kids Tennis Foundation Program!!! Paul Callow is a wonderful coach and it is especially great for our children to have contact with a variety of teachers and coaches, as we are a one teacher school.
Both last year and this year I have observed the positive mentoring carried out by Paul with our boys. It is so important for our boys to develop relationships with male coaches and teachers who are positive role models and Paul has indeed been a positive and encouraging mentor. In primary schools, there is not a balance of male/female teachers, so any chance to provide these opportunities is great. And their tennis skills are improving in ‘leaps and bounds’!!!!
From Debbie Rauber – Head Teacher at Yandoit Primary School.
The photo above shows KTF coach, Paul Callow with Yandoit PS’s entire student population.
From Ally and Monique – Wallarano Primary School:
We think that tennis is an excellent activity for children to get fitter and better at tennis. We also think tennis is a great sport to learn easily. The best games we played were McDonalds and Jail. Miss. Bailey, our teacher took lots of photos and we had to do a Reading Group activity and she gave us some photos of ourselves and we had to do speech bubbles of what we would be thinking while playing tennis. Out tennis coach’s name was Wanda and she was a great teacher. She had lots of fun with us. We learnt how to hit a ground stroke, backhand and forehand volleys. We also learnt how to serve. We had great fun and want to encourage others to learn about tennis.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Tennis fans visiting Australian Open 2007 on the middle Sunday, Charity Sunday, had the opportunity to help raise money for these three very worthy causes simply by depositing ticket stubs in collection bins around Melbourne Park.
Through the Tennis Australia Charitable Fund, The Bone Growth Foundation, United Way Community Funds of Australia and Kids Tennis Foundation shared in the proceeds of a donation from the Fund for every stub redeemed.
Additional money for the Tennis Australia Charitable Fund was raised during this year’s event through sales of special Australian Open wristbands. Certainly a very popular tennis accessory!
Sincere thanks to all those patrons at this year’s Open who not only deposited their ticket stubs on Charity Sunday but also purchased the fantastic wrist bands during the tournament and contributed to Kids Tennis Foundation receiving a donation of close to $30,000!
Kids Tennis Foundation sincerely thanks the Australian Open and Tennis Australia for their ongoing support and is truly privileged and ever so grateful to once again receive such a generous donation.
This money certainly goes a long way in helping Kids Tennis Foundation provide many more financially and socially disadvantaged children throughout Australia with the opportunity to learn and play tennis, not to mention the boost to their self-esteem and self-confidence.

| Aces aplenty @ Australian Open 2007! |
| Published on March 6‚ 2007 |
For the third year in a row, Kids Tennis Foundation was fortunate again to be the recipient of funds generated from the American Express ACES Program at Australian Open 2007.
KTF received $100 for every ace served on Rod Laver Arena during the entire tournament!
Excitement certainly wasn’t confined just to Melbourne Park either. Two amazing American Express “Live Sites” were set up on the Sydney Opera House Forecourt and Melbourne’s Federation Square. The public was also given the chance to help raise funds by serving at ACES targets set up at these ‘Live Sites’, with American Express donating $10 for every successful shot.
Aces served up by tennis stars and members of the public boosted the total amount this year to $75,790. What a fantastic result!
KTF is truly thrilled and honoured to be the recipient of this wonderful donation from American Express. The generosity of American Express will help put racquets in the hands of children who would otherwise not have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of this great sport.

American Express is a long time supporter of tennis and 2007 was the eighth year American Express has supported the Australian Open as "Official Card of the Australian Open".
The American Express ACES Program is a global initiative to raise money for kids’ tennis programs and is run at all the major tennis events supported by American Express around the world. To date the program has raised more than $1.1 million AUD around the world.

“The very generous support of Garnier over many years now has helped make this possible,” said Susie Norton, Chief Executive Officer of Kids Tennis Foundation.

AND THANK YOU TO...
Generous Carlton Gardens Tennis Club
To mark the end of their time in the KTF program, children from St Brigid’s, Fitzroy & St Joseph’s were treated to a special tennis day at Carlton Gardens Tennis Club. Dedicated and enthusiastic KTF coach, Lou Liparota conducted coaching sessions and games, not to mention use of the ball machine, for the excited youngsters. Afterwards the committee of Carlton Gardens Tennis Club provided a free sausage sizzle for all involved. Many smiling faces indeed!
Sincere thanks to wonderful KTF supporter, Brian Falconer, president of Carlton Gardens Tennis Club, and the hardworking committee for making this day such a success. Providing the use of these fantastic facilities, not only on this day but also during the last two years, has meant that the children from these schools have their KTF lessons at the tennis courts each week instead of in the school yard.
Dandenong Tennis Club
A very big thank you is extended to Ray French, a former KTF coach and long time supporter of KTF, and the committee of Dandenong Tennis Club for donating the use of their tennis courts for the KTF lessons on a weekly basis during 2004 and 2005 with KTF coach, Wanda Clothier. Many disadvantaged children in the Dandenong area were thus given the opportunity to learn and play tennis in a realistic setting. Also, being able to use the courts free of charge helped our cause no end, as the money saved goes directly back into more programs.
...and West Brunswick Tennis Club
Many thanks also to Cindy Pintimally and the committee of West Brunswick Tennis Club for allowing Kids Tennis Foundation use of their courts during 2006, free of charge, on a weekly basis so that children in the Brunswick area can receive their tennis lessons at the tennis courts with their KTF coach, Lou Liparota. |

| Comments from 2006 Victorian KTF schools |
| Published on December 4‚ 2006 |
We are impressed with the Program. It promotes physical skills, self-confidence, team work and it complements our esteem/endeavour program through confidence, persistence and getting along. The students look forward to their tennis sessions with Brian and are always well-behaved for him. I would heartily recommend the Program for any school.
R. Hawthorne, Principal, Timor P.S.
Holy Rosary is extremely thankful for the opportunity to be involved in the Kids Tennis Foundation Program. Lou is an excellent coach and works and interacts extremely well with our children. We really do observe an increase in childrens' self esteem and motivation. To watch their skills and self esteem develop as the Program progresses is very rewarding and beneficial for our students. It is also another excellent opportunity to get the children involved in physical activity and 'moving'. Thank you for all the great work your organisation provides.
D. Ryan, Deputy Principal, Holy Rosary P.S.
I feel that it is vital that students from disadvantaged areas have access to a wide range of sports. The children at Stevensville don’t often have the finances to access professional coaching, so it is vital that these sorts of programs continue. We look forward to the Program continuing in 2007.
X. Hayes, P.E. Teacher, Stevensville P.S.
The Kids Tennis Foundation is a very valuable and worthwhile program and we at St Dominic's would like to sincerely thank you for giving our school this wonderful opportunity. I hope this program continues at our school and many others too. It gives all the children the opportunity to experience and develop tennis skills, social skills, higher self esteem, confidence and well being. It is also an eye-opener for children who have never and will never know anything about tennis. Seeing some of the childrens' faces when stepping onto the tennis court for the first time is a beautiful moment. KTF is a valuable resource for St Dominic's and the community feels privileged to have a program like this.
C. Menassa, Sport Coordinator, St Dominic's P.S.
The tennis program was a valuable and worthile experience for all the children. An extremely beneficial addition to our Health and Physical Education program.
C. Carroll, 5/6 Team Leader, Keilor Heights P.S.
I believe the Kids Tennis Foundation Program is a fantastic concept. To make the concept work though, you have to have the right people coaching the students. Les has a fantastic rapport with the students and staff. His ability to keep ALL students involved is excellent. The Kids Tennis Foundation Program has provided many of our students with a chance to have a go at something they would never dream of. We have few students who play any kind of sport outside school hours and KTF is a fantastic way to introduce tennis to our students.
T. O’Shannassy, Leading Teacher, Frankston East P.S.
The Kids Tennis Foundation Program has been a valuable resource at our school. The students have gained many new skills and improved self esteem. It is great to see your Foundation putting something back into the grass-roots. You leave the AFL and soccer junior development for dead. One-off clinics are a waste of time and nothing more than novelty value.
D. Altis, 3/4 Coordinator, Wales Street P.S.
We love having Andrew come to our school. He is very inspiring and the children respond very well to him. They enjoy his sessions so much that I often have children wanting to borrow tennis racquets and balls at recess and lunchtime. Thank you for the opportunity to be involved in the Program.
S. Scott, Warragul P.S.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to participate in a game which they would not normally have access to. Social interactions are very positive. Encourages our students to be involved in healthy active after school activities.
S. Morris, Acting Principal, Campmeadows P.S.
Children really enjoy the Program and get a great deal out of it. A number of children who have done the Program have gone on to play in local tennis competitions.
P. Rechsteiner, Principal, Nilma P.S.
This Program has been excellent. The students at Malmsbury PS really enjoy the sessions and look forward to them every week. Thanks.
J. Mackintosh, Teacher, Malmsbury P.S.
This year we decided to focus the KTF lessons on grades 3 & 4 children. This was proven to be successful by the response of the students. They were so enthusiastic and very excited to be part of the coaching sessions. Some started to play tennis after school by getting a racquet and hitting a ball against a wall. A couple of students who have limited success academically and sometime struggle with social interaction became proud of their achievements with comments such as…. “I am really good at serving!” and “I hit the ball in today!”. For most, if not all of our students, this will be their only opportunity to come into contact with tennis coaching. Thank you for the commitment of everyone involved. It is greatly appreciated by the whole school community, from students, parents and staff. Thank you to coach, Lyn, for her commitment and help given willingly to our school.
S. Jones, Phys Ed Coordinator, St Albans North P.S.
Wonderful job, Ian. You coached over 100 students during the Program and the school is very grateful for your help. We had continuous positive feedback about the Program and many students asking when it was their turn! Great job! Your attitude and rapport with the students was fantastic. We hope to get you back again for 2007.
G. Fay, P.E. Teacher, Findon P.S.
We recognise the benefits of this Program and would like it to continue. It exposes students to a sport not played at our primary school. Timid students are able to be competitive in a non-contact sport. Encourages hand-eye coordination and develops fitness. We have two tennis courts being built which we’d like to get as much use out of as possible. To do this we need coaches of Lou’s capabilities to continue running programs.
P. Slidders, Sports Coordinator, Glenroy West P.S.
All staff involved rated the Program highly and were impressed with Ian’s coaching skills and positive feedback. It gives students an opportunity to participate in a highly social sport that many of them (either because of financial difficulties or lack of awareness) may not normally be able to participate in.
L. Turner, P.E./Art Teacher, Thomastown P.S. |

| Sustainaball® & KTF work together to support Victorian communities |
| Published on December 4‚ 2006 |
Tennis Victoria’s community project Sustainaball® is pleased to have the support of KTF. Partnered with Australian Open Tennis (Melbourne Park) and Tennis Victoria, unwanted tennis balls collected at both venues will be reused by KTF and its initiatives.
Each year, more than 10 million tennis balls are imported into Australia – this equates to 670km of tennis balls.
Sustainaball® supported by the Sustainability Fund, explores the reuse of tennis balls, the promotion of sustainability and the sport of tennis. Sustainaball® encourages environmental awareness through strengthening community connectedness, where its initiatives support individual, household, community, industry and government bodies to collaboratively work towards a common goal of sustainability.
To prolong the use of tennis balls by ball collection bins have been installed at selected tennis clubs and public venues in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. Community members are encouraged to utilise these collection points to dispose of unwanted tennis balls. Collected tennis balls are then reused by community groups such as primary schools and KTF.
To successfully complete the Sustainaball® loop, tennis balls that are non-reusable are being incorporated and manufactured into recycled rubber products by Repeat Rubber Pty Ltd. This includes products such as anti-fatigue mats, acoustic underlay, cargo matting and moulded products.
Sustainaball® encourages all community members to partake in its innovative project and help support KTF.

| KTF reaches more new schools in Victoria |
| Published on November 30‚ 2006 |
For the first time ever, Kids Tennis Foundation has this year commenced programs at five schools in the Maryborough area. Talbot, Timor, Carisbrook, St Augustine’s and Dunolly primary schools have been fortunate to have wonderful new KTF coach, Brian Carr, introduce them to the game of tennis through the KTF Program.
Timor Primary School is situated in central Victoria within a very small country community. The school backyard consists of undulating paddocks and bush land and is frequently visited by koalas and kangaroos. Kids Tennis Foundation tennis coach is Brian Carr. Brian wonders who’s more popular at times himself or the local wildlife! Brian says it’s a great place to coach, the kids are fantastic with the whole school population (of just 27) enjoying their tennis lesson each week.

It’s a fantastic place for these kids to learn, with school principal Russell Hawthorne and staff treating the kids as their own extended family. It’s great to see the grade preps following the grade 6 children around. This school’s sense of community and caring culture is a great reason for these schools, although small, to continue as they provide an environment that is priceless for the development of the individual and community. Brian as a coach says it is just so FUN to be there.
The children of St Augustine's Primary School are certainly enjoying their time in the KTF Program. Principal, Stephen Haintz, reports:
This has been a great initiative where all children are benefitting. They love the tennis sessions, really enjoy the skill development and feel very positive about the capacity to do well in a new sport. Children who would never have been able to play tennis have been introduced to a sport they can play for life. They have developed new skills and have improved confidence. It has also seen improved attendance on tennis days. Brian has been brilliant with the children and it is his approach that has opened the sport up to our students. Congratulations to the Foundation for creating opportunities for children who would never have picked up a racquet in their life. |

KTF can't thank Principal Sponsor, OAMPS INSURANCE BROKERS, enough for their commitment and most generous support again this year. Not only does OAMPS provide much needed financial support for KTF programs but also provides gifts for all guests at KTF fund-raisers during the year.
And....very, very exciting news! OAMPS INSURANCE BROKERS has extended sponsorship of KTF for another twelve months. What generous support! And...so truly appreciated by all at KIDS TENNIS FOUNDATION, especially all those disadvantaged kids who benefit from KTF programs. |

Kids Tennis Foundation received a grant again this year for $25,000 from the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund (Victoria) as a result of the Eldon & Anne Foote Trust. How generous! This year marks the fifth such grant and for this Kids Tennis Foundation is extremely grateful.
This amount means that many more disadvantaged children in metropolitan Melbourne are given an opportunity which would not otherwise be available to them but for KTF and the support of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund (Victoria). Tennis is the game…. boost to self-esteem & self-conidence the aim! Certainly being achieved!
Sincere thanks once again. |

| Prime Time! |

Sincere thanks to General Manager, Prime Television Victoria, Tony Hogarth for his wonderful support of Kids Tennis Foundation during the past 12 months.
Prime Television is a committed and active community partner with many strategic partnerships with key organizations and events in regional Victoria. Prime TV aims to develop long term partnerships in the areas of Health, Education, Safety, Tourism and Town Prosperity. Prime TV firmly believes that the vision and action of Kids Tennis Foundation fits within that community support strategy.
To this end, Prime Television has not only provided KTF with substantial on-air promotional airtime in regional Victoria during the past twelve months but also donated $5,000 cash.
Prime TV produced a commercial free of charge and has run this promotion for Kids Tennis Foundation at least 25 times per month since end 2005.
As a result of this exposure Kids Tennis Foundation has received many enquiries about the work of the Foundation, where programs are conducted and the availability of KTF programs in regional Victoria. Consequently many additional KTF programs are now being conducted in some of these country towns.
Kids Tennis Foundation is proud to have Prime Television as its television communication partner in regional Victoria. |

| American Express Aces Program Serves Up Nearly $80,000 For KTF |
| Published on August 31‚ 2006 |
Kids Tennis Foundation was fortunate again this year to be the recipient of funds generated from the American Express Aces Program at Australian Open 2006. KTF received $100 for every ace served on Rod Laver Arena during the entire tournament - a grand total of 558 aces!
The Amex Aces Program launched on the Thursday prior to the Australian Open with a specially designed tennis court set up on the foreground of the Arts Centre in Melbourne. It had to be seen to be believed! The launch was a wonderful opportunity for some very lucky KTF children to meet their heroes Andy Roddick and Venus Williams, and even have a hit with them! It was certainly an experience they will never forget.
For the first time, the public were given the chance to help raise funds by serving at targets set up at ‘live sites’ in Sydney and Melbourne. Aces from tennis stars Andy and Venus at the launch event in Melbourne, and from Pat Rafter, Alicia Molik, Guillermo Vilas and Mats Wilander at a legends doubles challenge in Sydney, boosted the total amount to $78,840. What a fantastic result. KTF is truly thrilled and honoured to be the recipient of this wonderful donation.
The generosity of American Express will help put racquets in the hands of children who would otherwise not have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of this great sport.

Through the Australian Open Charitable Fund, Multiple Sclerosis Australia and Kids Tennis Foundation shared in the proceeds from the donation of $2 for every stub redeemed.
Additional money for the AO Charitable Fund was raised during this year’s event through sales of special Australian Open wristbands. Certainly a very popular tennis accessory!
And... a very big thank you to Garnier. Not only has Garnier been a huge presence at the Australian Open, so too at KTF functions. Garnier has been so generous in donating product for every guest at these fundraisers. In addition, this year Garnier donated a percentage of the sales of their mini bottles of Ambre Solaire sunscreen sold during AO 2006. Lucky for KTF, many scorching summer days ensured that this was a very popular (if not essential!) product.
Sincere thanks to all those patrons at this year’s Open who not only deposited their ticket stubs on Charity Sunday but also purchased the fantastic wrist bands and mini bottles of Ambre Solaire sunscreen during the tournament.
Kids Tennis Foundation sincerely thanks the Australian Open for their ongoing support and is truly privileged and ever so grateful to once again receive such a generous donation. This money certainly goes a long way in helping Kids Tennis Foundation provide many more financially and socially disadvantaged children throughout Australia with the opportunity to learn and play tennis, not to mention the boost to their self-esteem and self-confidence. |

WELCOME TO NEW COACHES...
Brian Carr
Brian has over twenty years’ experience coaching in country Victoria and overseas. Brian holds numerous coaching qualifications and is an accredited Level 2 ATPCA and VCTA tennis coach. He was VCTA state coach for six years and travelled extensively throughout country Victoria coaching at affiliated clubs. Brian has been club pro at numerous clubs and currently is associated with Maryborough Tennis Centre, Daylesford Lawn Tennis Club, Moulamein Tennis Club and Casterton Tennis Club.
Early on he developed a passion for tennis and Tae Kwon Do. He competed at state tournaments and was gaining recognition as a talented sportsman. However his personal goals in pursuit of sport were to receive a blow. Today Brian is a cancer survivor who credits his life to living a philosophy of healthy eating, disciplined lifestyle and dedication to the highest levels of personal fitness. This philosophy led him to establish a coaching business that not only offers tennis but also encompasses the martial art of Tae Kwon Do and personal fitness. Brian’s passion for tennis has continued. The fun and enjoyment of playing country tournaments is a motivating factor for his continuing success. Brian has always endeavored to put as much back into tennis as he has gained and is excited to be involved with Kids Tennis Foundation as he sees this as the leading kids tennis program in Australia. He is currently conducting KTF programs at Dunolly, Carisbrook, St Augustine’s, Timor and Talbot Primary Schools.
Adam Vergis
Adam has been playing tennis for thirteen years and formerly competed in national junior points tournaments and was once ranked in the top 50 in under 14s and 16s. Starting his tennis career at Yarraville TC, he then moved to Maribyrnong Park TC where he played for three years pennant and juniors as the no.1 player in the top section. Adam stopped playing at 17 to attend Melbourne University and complete a Bachelor of Science. He completed the TCA Development Course in 2004 and has been coaching full-time for two years at Yarraville TC with club coach Paul Mick. He is currently playing Grade 2 pennant after last year winning the Grade 3 pennant and being named Grade 3 Pennant Player of the Year. Adam is conducting KTF programs in the Yarraville and Footscray areas.
Danielle Borle
Danielle is conducting programs in the Melton area. She has been coaching tennis for seven years in the Melton District, currently working as head coach at the Melton South Tennis Club. Danielle is a TCA Development and Aus Sport Commission Level 1 coach and hopes to complete the TCA Advanced Course later this year. She is also a university student in Ballarat, completing her final year of a degree in Sport and Exercise Science. Currently she is playing section 1 in the Melton District TA, Western Suburbs ladies and A grade in Northern Suburbs night tennis.
Mat O’Brien
Mat O'Brien is a qualified TCA Advanced coach currently completing Tennis Australia's Elite (High Performance) coaching course. He has been playing tennis since an early age and was a respectable player as a junior but suffered a series of serious injuries that shifted his focus from playing to coaching. Mat has coached for approximately fourteen years at many levels from beginner to tour level. Previously he has been involved with Tennis Australia's Targeted Athlete Project (TAP), Milo talent identification days, touring teams with Tennis Victoria and has enjoyed success on many levels. He is currently head coach of the 14s girls state program with Tennis Victoria and also coaches at Werribee Central Tennis Club.
Welcome Back!
Ian Goolagong
After several years’ absence, Ian is back again coaching with KTF and loving it. Always a popular coach among the kids, Ian is conducting programs at Findon Primary School, Thomastown Primary School, St John’s School Thomastown East and St Luke’s Primary School in Lalor. KTF is thrilled to have Ian back on board.
What a trouper!
After more than twenty years coaching with KTF, Margaret Harris; has decided to “hang up her racquet”! Margaret was one of the first KTF coaches to conduct programs in regional Victoria. Living in Mirboo North at the time, she took the KTF program to many disadvantaged kids in schools in the Gippsland area. After many years and several kilometres later, she moved to Melbourne where she continued to coach for Kids Tennis Foundation, conducting programs mainly in the Williamstown and Newport areas. Margaret has been a wonderful member of the KTF coaching team. Having someone so dedicated, committed, reliable, enthusiastic and caring has been not only fantastic for Kids Tennis Foundation but certainly for the schools and the kids in her KTF programs. Whilst she is lost to KTF not so to Williamstown, where she will continue to coach at clubs in this area.
FAREWELL...
To two other coaches, Andrew Woodman and Jason Burns. Andrew was with KTF for almost a year-and-a-half, and has left to commence his career in accounting. Jason was introducing tennis through the KTF program to a number of schools in East Gippsland. After eighteen months with KTF Jason is returning to Queensland and will be working in real estate. KTF thanks Andrew and Jason for their enthusiasm and hard work during their time with KTF. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours. |

| Talking Tennis does it again! |
| Published on July 3‚ 2006 |
You know the old saying in tennis - never change a winning game. That’s the philosophy of Kids Tennis Foundation and Talking Tennis. Each year it’s a huge success for KTF and this year’s Talking Tennis produced another big result.
The live broadcast across the Seven Network on the eve of Australian Open 2006 once again took our name and cause into homes around Australia. The 350-strong audience at Melbourne Park were not only treated to a smorgasbord of stars - including Tracy Austin, Lleyton Hewitt, Jelena Dokic, David Nalbandian, Jim Courier, Martina Hingis, John Alexander and Kim Clijsters (not to mention compare Bruce McAvaney) - but the story of our very own Lou Liparota. Working in the inner Melbourne suburb of Collingwood, Lou is one of many dedicated KTF coaches around Australia who give children in disadvantaged schools opportunities they otherwise might never have to play tennis.
Another highlight of this year’s Talking Tennis for all KTF friends and supporters was the presentation of a cheque for $100,000 by Tony Robinson, Group CEO of KTF’s Principal Sponsor, OAMPS Insurance Brokers Ltd, to our Chairman, Paul McNamee. On behalf of us all - and the kids - again, thank you OAMPS!
After Talking Tennis had wound up, KTF continued to receive the most wonderful exposure on Channel 7 during the Australian Open through the exciting American Express Aces program. As each ace was served on Rod Laver Arena, $100 was earmarked for KTF. By tournament’s end, the game’s biggest servers had pounded down hundreds of aces. (See our separate story.) Thank you to the players, and thank you, American Express.
We’re looking forward to Talking Tennis and Australian Open 2007. In fact, bring it on!

| President's Report 2005 - by Eric Campbell |
| Published on July 3‚ 2006 |
I’m again happy to report that we have enjoyed another successful year in 2005 with over two hundred programs operating in "disadvantaged" primary schools in every state and territory in Australia. More than four thousand underprivileged children are participating in these programs every week of the school year.
I was very pleased to welcome a new Principal sponsor for 2005/2006 and hopefully well beyond.
OAMPS Insurance Brokers Ltd have not only made a significant annual cash contribution but are extremely supportive in so many ways, obviously with insurance, but have also assisted with printing, gifts for functions, and so on. The attitude from the people at OAMPS is always, “how can we help?” Clearly we enjoy the same high level of service offered to their customers.
We also enjoyed fantastic support from American Express through the “$100 For Each Ace Served on Rod Laver Arena” promotion. As sole beneficiaries we were excited to receive $79,400.
Continued financial support from the Australian Open Charitable Fund, the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund, again through the Eldon & Anne Foote Trust and a most generous donation from Gordon Moffatt AM, were all most gratefully received.
Active and enthusiastic support was received for the three major fund raising activities, the Talking Tennis Lunch (an official Australian Open event), the Mothers' Day Lunch at Kooyong and of course our “Top Hats and Tiara” glamour party. Garnier has been extremely generous in providing items from their excellent product range as prizes and gifts at these functions. Along with many individual donations of cash and product, all have contributed in offsetting the continued cost of running the program. Great on going support is also appreciated from the many tennis clubs who donate court time, racquets and balls.
A huge thanks to all our supporters, large and small, corporate and personal. YOU make it possible for us to continue to provide a unique service for underprivileged kids.
A further thanks to Tennis Australia who provided a rare opportunity for many of the kids when supplying tickets for the Australia v Argentina Davis Cup tie in NSW.
The Board has welcomed a new member in Helen Prior, recently returned from some years in Malaysia. We are delighted to have Helen on board. She was instrumental in facilitating our long and happy association with Ego Pharmaceuticals prior to her time overseas. Her enthusiasm and business skills will be of great benefit.
The year has seen some new coaches joining the program and some we have farewelled. The coaches have again been superb in providing more than merely coaching. In many instances they offer the kids a strong point of positive reference, something quite often missing in many under privileged young lives. Thankyou to the coaches and also to the schools and their most co-operative staff who all help in delivering a great program.
Once again I am overwhelmingly appreciative of the dedicated and efficient performance of our National Co-ordinator, Kate Szabo, and the untiring enthusiasm and leadership from our CEO Susie Norton. Along with the State Co-ordinators, they make a great team and I thank them all. Finally I thank the Board who ensure the funding is in place, the direction is maintained and who all contribute to the continued provision of a very worthwhile social welfare program.
And, a very important reminder. The final fundraising activity for this year is our "Flower Power” Tennis Ball on Friday 6th October. Please "plant" in your diary now! |
