Kids Tennis Foundation has played a major role in providing tennis coaching to many hundreds of socially and financially disadvantaged children over the many years of its operation in the ACT. As a result KTF has made a significant contribution to the popularity of tennis. It also helps when rising ACT star Nick Kyrgios was awarded last year’s Newcombe medal. Other finalists were Samantha Stosur, Lleyton Hewitt and Casey Dellacqua. This is the sport’s highest honour in Australia. Nick Kyrgios beat Raffa Nadal at Wimbledon last year and Roger Federer on clay in Milan this year. Nick is the youngest player to beat both Federer and Nadal. At the age of 20 years Nick is now ranked number 30 in the world in men’s tennis. The recently redeveloped Canberra Tennis Centre at Lyneham features 32 courts of various surfaces including four indoor courts, twelve European Clay and four ANZ Capital Tennis Hot Shots courts. The variety of court surfaces provides Tennis ACT with the opportunity to host a wide range of events across the tournament pathway. As a result the ACT features prominently in the Tennis Australia National 2015 tournament calendar for juniors and adults.
